Whitney designs and implements professional development models and K12 curriculum for formal and informal settings. Her focus is STEM, STEAM, and cross-curricular initiatives, with tight alignment to evaluation to ensure outcomes, and strategic planning for systemic implementation. She researches new trends that address the power of multimedia elements, website design, and social media to engage and improve access and equity for diverse learners. Evolving the STEM identity and STEM capitol of all constituents, learner and leader alike, is key in her work.
Whitney is Co-investigator on CosmoQuest, developing the project’s PD and professional learning network, and leads McREL’s contribution to several NASA projects, including the Dawn Mission’s Communications and Public Outreach team, curricular and professional development initiatives for Discovery and New Frontiers programs. She was a Co-Principal Investigator for NanoExperiences and a central contributor to NanoTeach, National Science Foundation projects empowering educator efficacy and student achievement. She was the PI for NASA EPOESS Small Bodies, Big Concepts, professional development scaffolding high end space science content with pedagogical strategies. Prior to joining McREL, Whitney was a high school science teacher, elementary and middle school STEM specialist, assistant principal, and curriculum coordinator in grades 3-12 for more than twenty years.
